Als Flaggschiff der Serie ist der AE120² das größte Modell der 100er-Serie und verfügt über eine echte 3-Wege-Konstruktion. Dieser Lautsprecher bietet einen kraftvollen Klang aus einem schlanken Gehäuse, dessen geschmackvolles Design sich harmonisch in eine Vielzahl von Wohnumgebungen einfügt. Zwei Tieftöner sorgen für eine raumfüllende Wiedergabe, ergänzt durch einen speziellen Mitteltöner, der in einem eigenen Gehäuse untergebracht ist und sorgfältig entwickelt wurde, um die negativen Auswirkungen von Rückwellenreflexionen zu minimieren. Integriert in den perfekt abgestimmten Waveguide mit Wide Dispersion Technology (WDT) sorgt der 25-mm-Soft-Dome-Hochtöner von Acoustic Energy für eine kontrollierte Abstrahlung, hohe Empfindlichkeit und geringe Verzerrungen im Hochtonbereich.

Die 3-Wege-Frequenzweiche ist impedanzkompensiert, um Resonanzprobleme zu vermeiden, die andernfalls die Basswiedergabe verlangsamen und die Mitteltonwiedergabe verfälschen würden. Besonderes Augenmerk wurde zudem auf die Phasen- und Zeitausrichtung gelegt, um eine optimale Integration und Klangbühne zu gewährleisten. Das Ergebnis ist ein Lautsprecher, der sanfte, breit abgestrahlte hohe Frequenzen mit einem klaren Mitteltonbereich und einer blitzschnellen Basswiedergabe bietet. Das inerte Gehäuse besteht aus 15 mm starkem HDF und wird, wie sein kleinerer Bruder AE109², mit Gewichtsausgleich geliefert, um Gehäusevibrationen zu dämpfen. Das interne Versteifungssystem wurde sorgfältig abgestimmt, um Gehäuseresonanzen und Verfärbungen im Mitteltonbereich zu reduzieren, während der neue AE120² von einem dezent gestalteten, unauffälligen schwarzen Sockel profitiert, der die Stabilität unterstützt und die Dynamik sowie die Stereofokussierung weiter verbessert.
